After Christmas break Duchesne House welcomed volunteers from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, St. Anselm's College in Manchester, NH. They were followed by Academy of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich Ct. who had an extra long stay (what we call in New Orleans a lagniappe or something extra) because the snow cancelled their return flight so they enjoyed two extra days of learning, fun and service. We had a return international volunteer from Vienna, Austria, Fabiola Sigmund who spent last January with us. She came back in February with a friend, Theresa Koenig and both spend 3 days during Mardi Gras rebuilding with the St. Bernard Project. They did manage to see some parades also! Stuart Hall and Convent of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco came shortly after. The picture is the group posing before the levee in the lower Ninth Ward. In March we will wecome for a second time the University of Michigan and for the first time the University of Southern Illinois. Just before Easter the University of San Diego will visit to explore New Orleans' unique opportunities to deepen their understanding of the role of educators.
